On her website, she calls herself "a dreamer, a Pisces, an artist, a designer, an innovator," and "a creator...," and the Wisconsin-born, New York-based, Malliha is most definitely all those things and more. A true original, the stunning model paints, draws, travels, works with an international art collective...the list goes on... We love a girl who rocks her own look, smiles big, and radiates positive vibes, so we recently caught up with the lovely Artist/Model/Curator/Style Maven to learn more. Check out the interview below to find out some of her favorite haunts in the city, her work with The Collective 57, and what's laying on her bedside table.
First of all, we are huge fans of your artwork and blog, not to mention your stunning portfolio and impressive style. You have so many talents and passions, is there any project you've done that you're most proud of?
First and foremost thank you so much for extending the invite to feature me on your blog. I am grateful and honored to be a part of your social world! As far as my project that I am most proud of...I would have to say thecollective57.com
I curate for the site and provide social media support. The Collective 57 is a global platform for artists, which gives exposure and opportunity.
Where are you originally from and when did you come to New York?
I am originally from Wisconsin, I came to NYC to live the dream (model, go to art school, and experience the city that never sleeps). I have been here for several years and it never fails to amaze me!
We'd love to know some of your favorite spots in the city...What's your neighborhood?
I am in Brooklyn (Flatbush area). But I go all over to eat great food. I am a huge foodie ^_^
Here is a list of few places I love. Madiba (Fort Greene), Cafe Mocha (LES), Phayul (Jackson Heights), Dos Toros (West Village), & Numero 28 (West Village).
Where's your go-to drink spot?
I do not drink....
Favorite clothing store?
Uniqlo... I love their prices and quality!
Who would you say is your ultimate style icon?
As far as an ultimate style icon, I do not have one. I just love seeing people express themselves and become a walking canvas of art. It is beautiful.
Trend you wouldn't be caught dead in?
I do not follow trends or any fashion forecasts. I set my own trends and just blow in the wind. ;)
What book or magazine would we find on your bedside table?
The Pumpkin Plan is the book that you would see on my bedside table.
You must get to travel a lot for work...any places that stand out?
The Philippines stood out because it is extremely inexpensive, beautiful and the natives are genuinely happy! What more could you ask for! :)
You attended SVA, right? Your art ranges from sketches to painting to collages and photography. Do you enjoy one medium over another? What did you focus on during your time there?
I love dibbling and dabbling into all facets of art. Art is my therapy, my lover, and she makes for great company. I enjoy doing illustrations the most because it takes me to my inner child.
What's next for you?
This is a hard one... You never know what is next. Life is just a box of mystery, but for the moment what's next is building. I am building a solid foundation and creating businesses.
